Program Note:
“You Want It…Come Get It!” is meant as a playful challenge; for that friend at the playground who loves to play tag, for that kid that always steals your lunch money; for the dragon warrior from Kung Fu Panda who holds the dragon scroll that Tai Lung so desperately wants (if you know, you know). It also represents a life philosophy. Be confident in yourself, don’t fear what others think of you, and never be afraid to chase your goals; when you see something that you desire, go after it!
This brass quintet is exciting and upbeat, a stream of unending action for all players involved. Beginning with a four-note pattern in the trumpets that evolves into jazzy rhythms and harmony filled with moments of triumph, determination and sometimes confusion, the main line passes from instrument to instrument, as everyone gets a chance to shine and show what they’ve got.
